Welcome to Your Music Blog for Online Learning!

A Big Hello to Our Years 4, 5 and 6 Students and Parents!

I hope that you are all keeping healthy, happy and beginning to embrace our new world of online learning. I’m excited to learn more as we venture into Music online and I hope that we can find ways to keep each other feeling positive through Music. You all have such incredible class teachers who are guiding you through this new journey and as our amazing Year 6 leadership team reminded us in their video ‘we are all in this together!’

We all know how sensational music is for our soul and there are soooooo many benefits to incorporating music into our lives at home for a while. One of the best things about music is that it can connect us all while we are physically apart!

A Few Questions You May Have About Our Music Lessons Online:

  • How will I access Music lessons? Each Monday during the school term I will post your Music lesson for the week. Please use this blog to find your class and the lesson outlined beneath.
  • What will Music look like online? It will be a little different for now, as I recognise that many of you do not have your own ukulele to use at home. We will still cover music concepts, skills and terminology and we will return to our instrumental program when we see each other at school.
  • What shall I do with my ukulele in the meantime? You are very lucky if you have your own ukulele at home. Now is a better time than ever to practice! Each week I will try to share something with you that you can attempt at home. For those of you who don’t have a ukulele maybe there’s another instrument in your household that you could take up for a while. When all else fails you all have YOUR VOICE!! The most portable and versatile instrument around!
  • What if I have a question for Mrs Sherborne? If you should have any music related questions, comments or queries from home I can be contacted by email on amy.sherborne@cewa.edu.au
  • What should I do with any written work I have completed? For now, please ask your parents to review with you and initial or comment on any written tasks. Place all written work into your music file

This Week's Lesson (Years 4, 5 and 6):

Watch the video link below. This song was written by a group of students in Australian schools in 2019.
Listen to the song as many times as you like! Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could all learn the words and sing it together when we return to school?

Answer the following questions, either on paper or in discussion with your parents:
  • What do you think this song is about?
  • How do the lyrics make you feel?
  • Can you relate this song to any current events in our world at the moment?
  • Optional Activity: Draw a picture reflecting your current mood as you listen to the song.

Holidays

Easter and ANZAC Day are fast approaching! Have you heard about Music For Mateship?
Check out the link below for more information:

The Last post is most commonly played by the Bugle but did you know you can learn it on the ukulele? For those of you who can read musical notation or tabs I have included a link to a video that you can have a go at

Another song that you might like to learn for ANZAC Day to share with your family members is 'Lest We Forget'.

For now, this little girl of mine is in charge of the ukulele in my household! Be sure to check in on Monday's during the school term for our upcoming lessons.
