Week 2, Term 2 Music

Aloha young musicians!

Welcome back to Term Two everyone. At school we will be returning to our Ukulele and Music Theory program. For those of you that are learning from home, I have provided links to some ukulele skills and techniques for you to look over until we see you again.

Here are some questions to test your theory from last term:
  • What is a CHORD?
  • What does the term TEMPO mean?
  • Can you define the term RHYTHM?
  • What are the NAMES of the strings on a ukulele?
  • How many PARTS of the ukulele can you name?

Here are some links to videos for those of you that have a ukulele at home. No doubt we will be seeing most of you back at school soon, so it might be helpful to watch these links to keep your ukulele skills and techniques up to speed. Keep practicing if you have your instrument at home!

Year 4:
  • G7 Chord Revision Remember short nails on your fretting hand will help you with mastering your chords.
  • You Are My Sunshine Chords C and G7. Remember to start very slow and each time you practice you can try to increase your tempo.
  • Stand By Me Play Along Another classic that we are practicing to help us master G7, as well as revise C, F and Am.

Year 5:
  • C to G Transitioning Have a go at mastering your C to G chord transitions. Remember we are aiming for each chord to sound clear and bright! The link provided should help you to practice slowly, focusing on the sound. Stop the video at 7:05 or challenge yourself to play the Em chord in the next activity.
  • Riptide Ukulele Play Along Am, C, F and G. Have a go at the D D UDU strumming pattern.
  • Stitches DU U U U strumming pattern.

Year 6:
  • Online Metronome When you are playing, have a go at using this online metronome to set the tempo.
  • Last term our groups were going to have a go at performing a song of our choice from the 3 listed: Dance Monkey, Stitches or How Far I'll go. You should have the music for these songs in your files and we will reset a class performance date for everyone when we return to school.
  • Graduation suggestions. A special song for the class I'm Yours has been suggested. Have a listen to the lyrics and see if they are an appropriate summary of our time and memories at school. Another Bruno Mars favourite Count On Me is worth a listen. We will have to make our choice very soon as a group!
See you soon everyone!
Mrs Sherborne
